Moffet Energy Modeling, LLC is Hiring a Field Technician Near Issaquah, WA

Position Summary

  • The Field Technician I is accountable for conducting performance testing and verification for residential homes and their applicable equipment and systems. The position will be provided a daily schedule of job sites that need to be inspected and will perform inspections and testing to ensure compliance with state and city energy codes, industry standards, and company procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs field inspections and energy compliance testing for new construction builders.
  • Travels daily to multiple job sites, frequently driving 3 hours in one day, and occasionally driving over 6 hours in one day.
  • Completes daily reports of inspections.
  • Communicates inefficiencies and compliance issues to builder’s superintendents.
  • Drives safely and maintains a clean driving record.
  • Visually verifies and photographs on all new homes: Insulation is installed to grade I industry standards including: Exterior walls, Crawlspace floors, Attic knee-walls, Garage floors, Overhangs, Attics, Vaulted ceilings, Rim and band joists

U-values and solar heat gain coefficients of all installed windows and skylights.

Air sealing measures including, but not limited to: Sill plates, Top plates, Attic knee walls, Penetrations from ductwork, piping, or wires, Skylights, Rim and band joists, Fireplace inserts, Shower and tub inserts, Vaulted and raised ceilings, Demising walls

Mechanical system types and installation techniques including: Conditioning type (furnace, heat pump, radiator, etc.), Rigid ductwork seams and joints air sealing, Flex ductwork connections

Ventilation strategy (heat recovery ventilator, whole house fan, air-cycler, etc.), Lighting types (LED, incandescent, compact fluorescent)

Documents model numbers of equipment and appliances including: Refrigerators, Dishwashers, Ranges, Washing machines, Dryers

All mechanical equipment including: Furnaces, Cooling coils, Condensing units, Heat pump indoor coils, Heat pump outdoor units, Ventilation equipment, Exhaust fans, Water heaters, Fireplace inserts

  • Performs testing for new homes: Duct leakage testing, Ventilation airflow testing to ensure compliance with ventilation airflow requirements, Blower door testing to measure infiltration through the home, Water flow testing of faucets and shower heads
  • Consistently maintains clean company vehicle, both interior and exterior.
  • Holds Responsibility for communicating with QA Designee to schedule car maintenance, including oil changes, routine check-ups, and tire rotations.
  • Follows and upholds all company policies and standards of professionalism.
  • Communicates with clients, always representing the company with professionalism.
  • Accountable for timely completion of specific duties.
  • Supports company management by adopting new assignments and processes.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • High School Diploma
  • Basic understanding of home construction terminology.
  • Exceptional verbal, writing, listening, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge with technology, including downloading software, updating apps, and using a phone to take photos and input information.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret architectural drawings and construction details.
  • Self-driven with the ability to prioritize and make sound decisions.
  • Exceptional ability to build rapport with job superintendents on site.
  • Ability to negotiate stressful situations.
  • Skill in managing conflict, accepting critique, and providing feedback.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work and cooperate with clients, vendors, co-workers, and fellow employees.
  • Professional, dependable, principled, honest, and caring with an exceptional work ethic.
  • Cooperative in fulfilling all obligations.
  • Aptitude, flexibility, and willingness to grow as the company expands and changes.
  • Must pass background and reference check.
  • Excellent driving record with active Oregon Driver’s License.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to drive and sit in a car for long periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, and move equipment each weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to enter crawlspaces in homes during inspections, occasionally crawling on stomach.
  • Ability to climb a ladder up to 12 feet high to inspect attic insulation.

Company Policy/Procedure Compliance

  • Follows all company policies and procedures as well as all local, state, and federal laws concerning employment.

Experience in energy rating or construction is required for this position. Certifications as an energy rater are not required and can be completed during training, but priority will be given to applicants with rating certifications.

This Job Description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

This job starts with part time hours but can become full time in the future if the applicant desires. Once the employee is at 30 hours a week benefits will be covered in full for health, dental, and vision.
